12 things to do in Hoi An that will recharge your batteries

As some of you know Vietnam was the last country I visited during my South East Asia backpacking trip and as some of you heard, it wasn’t exactly my favourite country either. I don’t know whether it was because I was tired physically and mentally after my illness or I just simply didn’t have any more patience to use sign language and pretend to ignore people who were constantly taking pictures of me. Who knows? The point is, I didn’t find Vietnam relaxing in any way, shape or form… until I got to Hoi An. I ended up spending five days there instead of a planned two and did everything and anything to recharge my batteries and restore my motivation to carry on.

So if you are travelling solo in Vietnam and looking for a place to chill – Hoi An is that place!

10 days exploring the best Myanmar has to offer

10 days itinerary travelling Myanmar

I’ll have to admit that Myanmar was a bumpy road. I went from ‘I want to leave this country immediately’ to ‘wow, that was quite an adventure, I am happy I did it!’. So if anyone would ask me whether they should go to Myanmar, I would say ‘for sure’. However that being said, as with any other country in the world, please be open minded. Myanmar is still so untouched by tourism and can be quite overwhelming! On the other hand, it means that you’ll get to experience ‘the real culture’ not ‘let’s drink f**king strong buckets and pretend we are exploring Thailand’ kind of culture.

So this was my 10 day itinerary and its highlights. Feel free to copy it! This could easily be done in 10 days if you are travelling during the day or it could be squeezed into a week if you are taking night buses.

Why Koh Lipe is the only island you need to visit?

Morning in Koh Lipe

Honestly, if you are considering island hopping in Thailand and are disregarding this little island next to the Malaysian border then you are missing out BIG TIME. I spent 3  weeks hopping around the islands and Koh Lipe was the first island I visited and funnily enough, it set such high standards that none of the other islands managed to beat it. Koh Lipe had everything I love in life and even more, so if you are in Thailand do yourself a favour and spend AT LEAST a couple of days there. Why?

3 simple reasons why Koh Phi Phi is a waste of time

Koh phi phi blo

If I would have to describe the whole ‘Koh Phi Phi experience’ in one word that word would be DISGUSTING.

There are not a lot of people who wouldn’t know where Koh Phi Phi is or why it’s so famous. If you don’t, then you really need to watch ‘The Beach’ which features young Leonardo di Caprio and is probably an all time favourite backpackers’ movie. No surprise that I love it too and Koh Phi Phi was on my bucket list for a very very long time. So I knew that I HAD to spend at least a couple of nights there and see the famous Maya Bay. However it left me with nothing more than disappointment.

10 days of Vipassana. Magic or bullshit?

The first time I’ve heard about Vipassana meditation was about two years ago and since then it was on my bucket list. I always wanted to do something mentally challenging and this sounded like one of those things that will either ‘make you or break you’. Vipassana is a 10 day silent meditation course which promises to free you from all your past negative experiences or as they say to ‘purify your mind’. We all have some emotional baggage and 10 days of my life didn’t sound like a huge sacrifice in exchange for a ‘peace of mind’. Well…
